Dell releases Ubuntu PCs

Not only has Dell just just released a line of PCs running Ubuntu Linux, the prices are quite attractive. A laptop with Core 2 Duo and 1GB RAM is just $900, something which will put serious pricing pressure on vendors of Linux computers such as System76 and ShopRCubed.

Dell is pushing Ubuntu into the mainstream. This can only be a good thing.

Ted Goodnight. Veterans for Peace. Bush protest

Ted Goodnight of Veterans for Peace spoke at the Bush protest in New London yesterday. He served fifteen years in the Reserves, volunteered for active duty after 9/11, and spent nine months in Afghanistan.

He says, “I freely admit it, I drank the Kool-Aid.” But after seeing how supposedly targeted attacks on al Qaida were actually done to terrify the populace (and score propaganda points at home, no doubt) he changed his views. Also he said, they didn’t have enough parts and ammo there because supplies were going to Iraq instead, a country that had not attacked the US, and that this endangered US troops in Afghanistan.

Highly patriotic, Goodnight believes strongly in the Constitution. We have a right to protest and dissent, he says, “The adminstration and Gathering of Eagles hope to use deception, fear-based propaganda, and intimidation to deny our use of civil liberties. Such acts are treasonous.”

Video: Brian Becker. Bush protest. New London CT

Brian Becker, national coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition, spoke at the antiwar rally yesterday outside the US Coast Guard Academy as Bush was speaking inside.

The neo-fascists he refers to were the Gathering of Geezers (or whatever it is they call themselves), aging white males across the street who distinguished themselves primarily by screaming sexual insults at antiwar women. “Today they don’t have their swastikas on, they don’t have their Klan robes on, but you can bet, that’s who they really are,” Becker said.

We had fifteen times their number, of all ages, multiple nationalities and religions too. Polls show the public strongly opposes the war now. The antiwar movement IS the majority. And only we can end the war. Just like we did with Vietnam.
