De Menezes ’shot for 30 seconds’

Armed police officers fired at Jean Charles de Menezes for over 30 seconds when they killed him at Stockwell tube station, according to a witness statement made to independent investigators and obtained by the Guardian.

The witness says the shots were fired at intervals of three seconds and that she ran for her life fearing terrorists had opened fire on commuters.

The police have lied about everything here. They said Menezes ran. He didn’t. They said he had a bulky coat. He didn’t. They said he jumped the turnstile. He didn’t. They said he was a suspect. He wasn’t.

And now this. They shot him every 3 seconds for 30 seconds, causing others to run because they thought terrorists were attacking. Which, if you think about, is precisely what happened. Thugs with guns executed an innocent man, methodically pumping bullets into him. Sure sounds like terrorism to me.

Sunni says no deal reached on constitution

A top Sunni Arab negotiator said Saturday that no agreement has been reached on the draft constitution and called on Iraqis to reject it in an Oct. 15 referendum. A government spokesman indicated talks were hopelessly deadlocked and said “this is the end of the road.”

The Bushies fucked up. Their mad dreams of power and control in the Middle East are crumbling. Hint: Whoever finally takes power will make Bush wish Saddam was still in charge. Saddam wasn’t openly hostile. I betcha the new leaders will be. After the civil war, with its resultant disruption of oil supplies, is over, that is.

Why some Los Angeles residents are twits

A new era for area codes
In a first for the state, L.A.’s 310, running short of numbers, will be joined by a 424 overlay

This shouldn’t be a big deal, right? Ah, but you don’t know the Westside of L.A., where some actually believe their 310 area code bestows upon them superior social status. Thus, if they get another phone and it’s 424,  then they’ve become, well, soiled or tainted. Gasp, what will their friends think? You probably think I’m joking…

Moreover, some residents fear loss of the cachet they say goes with having a 310 number — a status symbol long associated with Westside wealth and beach living.

Santa Monica resident Steve Chapek said he is most concerned that the overlay would erase the geographic identifier that comes with “living in the 310.”

Oh, the heartbreak.

“People will be calling 424 and be saying, ‘What’s this? Where am I calling?’ ” said Chapek, a 35-year-old map shop employee.

Well, Chapek, you silly twit, if they called the number, they I guess they DO know where is. Or don’t care.
