Documents link Posada to bomb plot and CIA

Declassified documents made public Tuesday link a Cuban exile seeking U.S. asylum — long regarded as a violent opponent of Fidel Castro — to a plot to bomb a Cuban airliner in 1976 and indicate he was on the CIA’s payroll for years.

One FBI document dated Nov. 3, 1976, quotes a confidential informant saying Luis Posada Carriles was among a group that discussed “the bombing of a Cubana Airlines airplane” before an attack at a hotel bar in Caracas, Venezuela.

The Bushies are saying well golly Posada may have snuck in the US but we just don’t know where he is. Uh huh. I suggest they ask their paramilitary right wing pals in Miami where Posada is.

Castro calls for mass protest

Cuban President Fidel Castro on Tuesday called for a massive demonstration next week to demand the United States arrest a man accused of plotting to kill him and masterminding the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner.

The ANSWER Coalition has been at the forefront of opposition to Posada, holding press conferences in the belly of the beast in Miami and organizing letter campaigns.

20,000+ letters sent to Bush & Congress to say: No asylum for Luis Posada Carriles, Extradite him to Venezuela

You can help keep the pressure up.

The incredible response to A.N.S.W.E.R.’s campaign to extradite anti-Cuban terrorist Luis Posada Carriles has led to people sending more than 20,000 emails and letters to Bush and members of Congress. Weeks of letter writing, press conferences and rallies has successfully drawn attention to the obvious hypocrisy of the Bush administration’s so-called “War on Terrorism.”

This campaign is making a big impact. Yesterday (May 9), the New York Times ran a major front-page story on the case. Today, there was a follow-up editorial.

Let’s keep up the pressure - right now - as it is making a big difference. Please send a letter or another letter and forward this appeal to a friend or family member and urge them to act now. It is easy for you and your friends to join this campaign. A.N.S.W.E.R. has set up an easy-to-use mechanism to facilitate sending a quick email to George W. Bush and the Congressional Representative in your District and Senators in your state with your demands. We have provided a sample letter, but you can customize your message to get your point across. Just click here to send your letter! For background on the case, click here.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies fire 120 rounds at unarmed car chase suspect

Ten Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies opened fire early Monday on an SUV they were chasing, discharging 120 rounds in a frenzied crossfire that injured a deputy and the unarmed suspect while sending bullets into nearby homes.

The shooting on a narrow residential street in Compton sent residents diving for cover as bullets zipped over their heads and through their windows. In the aftermath, bullet holes pocked the walls of at least five homes.

”This is crazy, really, really crazy,” said Trina Hays, 42, who dove onto her lawn when the shooting erupted 20 feet away. “They didn’t have any concern for anybody’s life, including their own. That’s why their own police officer got hit…. They could have just sat there and waited it out, but they opened fire.”

Even their boss is appalled. Sheriff questions tactics used by deputies in Compton shooting.

Would this have happened had the deputies been in an upscale Anglo part of L.A. rather than in Compton, which is primarily lower-income African-American and Latino? Not a chance. What a bunch of cowboy thugs.

Sometimes security programs are a lit-tle too helpful

So, a few days back my notebook computer lost access to the Net while using Internet Explorer. However I could get on the Net fine with Firefox. Theis would seem to rule about a malware attack on the winsock file, which will destroy your Internet access completely.

I run multiple spyware killers, ZoneAlarm, have a hardware firewall, software firewall, and a tweaked HOSTS file.

I checked everything. Scanned everything. No clue. Although I am, in fact, a computer professional, this had me stumped, so I took it to a friend and the savviest tech I know, Jim  at CTTWeb (they also host most of my websites.) As it turns out, the problem was ZoneAlarm. It was blocking access to the Net by IE. Maybe I did it, maybe it burped. The fix is Program Control/Programs. Make sure the program in question has green check marks for all options. Sigh.  ZoneAlarm is currently the highest rated program for security but their interface is confusing and counter-intuitive.

Winsock fix utilities. Malware can destroy your Internet access by mangling your winsock file. These utilities will fix it. Put them on a CD.

MEPs back McCartney justice fight

MEPs have voted to request European Union money to help fund a civil case against those suspected of killing Belfast man Robert McCartney.
Mr McCartney, 33, was stabbed in January. His family say IRA members were involved and witnesses are afraid.

A large majority voted to fund a possible civil action by his sisters if the current criminal inquiry failed.

Lest you think it’s just IRA members accused of such things

Family accuse Loyalists of brutal assault.

Belfast Telegraph’s Mary Fitzgerald has an article, Brother ‘beaten and left for dead’, in which the family of Stephen Nelson, who died in March, 6 months after a severe beating at a nightclub, have accused loyalists of the brutal murder.
