County prosecutors in Michigan reject request to charge Michael Moore

A request by Michigan Republicans that filmmaker Michael Moore be charged with violating election law has found little sympathy among county prosecutors.

The state Republican Party asked prosecutors in four counties to file charges against Moore for offering underwear and food to college students in exchange for a promise to vote.

These deeply dimbulb Republicans apparently do not understand what satire and humor are. Nor do they understand how idiotic they’ve made themselves look. Their desperation in trying to save Michigan for Bush is obvious, and their efforts are laughable and contemptible.

The harshest reaction came from the two Republican prosecutors, Antrim County’s Charles Koop and Isabella County’s Larry Burdick.

“Alleging that a person is attempting to buy votes is a serious allegation, and one that is taken seriously by this office. However, your request to prosecute Mr. Moore trivializes the intent of this section of the election code,” Koop said Thursday in a letter to Greg McNeilly, executive director of the state Republican Party.

MAPA President abandons Democrats, re-registers Green

The influential president of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) – one of the oldest, and largest political organizations of its kind in the state and U.S. – said Wednesday he has lost patience with the Democratic Party and is throwing his support to the Green Party.

Nativo Lopez – who made the dramatic disclosure and formally re-registered Green at the Secretary of State’s office Wednesday – said he is traveling throughout the state urging MAPA members and Latinos statewide to also re-register Green and to form MAPA/Green organizations.

This is a serious coup for the California Green Party!

Saddam didn’t have WMD’s

Undercutting the Bush’s administration’s rationale for invading Iraq, the final report of the chief U.S. arms inspector concludes that Saddam Hussein did not vigorously pursue a program to develop weapons of mass destruction after international inspectors left Baghdad in 1998, according to lawmakers and others briefed on the report.

The US doesn’t want a Palestinian state

Ariel Sharon’s chief aide caused a political storm yesterday by claiming that the real purpose of the Israeli prime minister’s “disengagement plan” was to freeze the peace process and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, all with the blessing of the US.

Big surprise #3

Gasoline prices are soaring (again).

Down the street from me, regular is  $2.35 a gallon. Oil tanker stocks like NAT and VLCCF have tripled in price this year while currently yielding 8-9%. The market is twitchy about oil prices, and with unrest/uncertainty in Iraq, Nigeria, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, prices won’t be going back down soon either.

Freeway Free Speech Day

From Freeway Blogger

Okay Everybody, this is it.  The Big One. Come through for me on this and I’ll never, ever bother you again.

On Wednesday, October 13th, people all over the country will be putting signs up on the freeways expressing their political opinions as the framers of our democracy intended: freely, and to as many of their fellow citizens as possible.  So far we’ve got 260+ activists from 115 cities/suburbs in 38 states participating, and by the 13th there’ll probably be over a thousand of us.  This event is being covered by MTV, Air America, Pacifica Radio and most likely, when it happens, everybody else.  Please help spread the word.

And don’t miss the photo gallery!
