Seymour Hersch: “You haven’t begun to see evil…”

The scariest part: “[Hersh] said he had seen all the Abu Ghraib pictures. He said, ‘You haven’t begun to see evil…’ then trailed off. He said, ‘horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run.’ He looked frightened.

These are depraved soldiers acting on orders of those even more depraved. This sickening lot need to thrown out of power and put in prison. Before it’s too late - too late for the country.

Mollie Ivins: What happened to the Constitution?

When, in future, you find yourself wondering, “Whatever happened to the Constitution?” you will want to go back and look at June 8, 2004. Labour loses over 460 council seats. Tories +263, Lib Dems +132

As deputy prime minister John Prescott confessed, Labour was given a serious kicking by voters who delivered it the worst election result in living memory.

The same will happen to Dubya in November. Yes, things will get very nasty, all manner of dirty tricks will be played, but in the end, Bush will lose. And it will happen. If we make it so.

Republicans funding, signing petitions for Nader

Kos is reporting the Nader petition drive in Arizona may not qualify AND that of those signing the petition for Nader, 92% are Republican.

If so, and if this pattern is repeated elsewhere, then Nader has no mandate, has no base, and should drop out.

And Republicans are funding him too.

Nearly 10 percent of the Nader contributors who have given him at least $250 each have a history of supporting the Republican president, national GOP candidates or the party, according to computer-assisted review of financial records by The Dallas Morning News.

I’m guessing they are not funding him because they support him.

Welcome to Hell

The LA murder rate is going up and the police chief has requested more officers. But California is broke and cannot afford to recruit.

Civil rights lawyer Connie Rice warns that with too few officers to “police humanely”, parts of the city may as well be in Falluja.

“We are now seeing the ambushing of cops by gangsters and we should be panicking”
