Fixin’ to Die in Iraq

Fixin’ to Die in Iraq

The anthem of the Vietnam war protests was “The I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die Rag” by Country Joe and the Fish. Not only was it humorous, it rallied millions.

Country Joe is still around, in fact he and most of the band will be touring soon.

Someone updated the lyrics for Iraq, and he posted them on his website .

Well come on all you new young men
Uncle Sam’s in a mess again
Got himself in a terrible jam
With a crazy Muslim named Saddam
So put down your bibles pick up your guns
We’re gonna have a whole lot of FUN

And it’s 1 2 3 what are we fighting for
Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn
I just know we gotta kill Saddam
And its 5 6 7 open up the pearly gates
Aint no time to wonder why
Big oil is startin to cry

As for liberals, Joe posted these lyrics in repsonse to the gay marriage debate.

Walking on the picket line
I was carrying my freedom sign
Up came a liberal anxiously
Here are the words said to me:

Chorus:
You’re only hurting your cause this way
That’s what all of us liberals say
Nobody likes things the way they are
But you go too fast and you go too far

AKA “I agree with your goals, but not your methods”, which generally is a recipe for inaction accompanied by much anguished hand-wringing.

US loses control of two cities

Eleven foreign hostages reported seized in Iraq

US may extend the stay of 15,000 troops in Iraq

From the LA Times - “It’s time to bail out,” said Charles V. Peña, director of defense policy studies at the Cato Institute, a conservative Washington think tank. “If it wasn’t obvious beforehand, it ought to be more obvious now that we are in a situation that is no longer in control, and we can’t make the fairy tale outcome that we would like to see happen in Iraq.”

If the Cato Institute is saying this, then support for Bush among conservatives must be plummeting. The official statements coming from the White House are so divorced from reality - oh they say, it’s just a few isolated rebels doing all this - one wonders if the Bushies are so deluded they actually believe their own propaganda.

Aside from “gittin’ tough”, a dismal flop of a strategy if there ever was one, they have no plan, no clue what to do, as events spiral out of their control.

130 soldiers killed in Iraq…

130 soldiers killed in Iraq - reports

A Pentagon source has said up to 130 US troops have been killed in fierce fighting in Iraq.

The large scale battle, described as “intense”, has taken place in the town of Ar Ramadi, 20 miles west of Fallujah.

From Baghdad Burning, a blog by an Iraqi woman in Baghdad

“This is crazy. This is supposed to be punishment for violence but it’s only going to result in more bloodshed on both sides… people are outraged everywhere- Sunnis and Shi’a alike. This constant bombing is only going to make things worse for everyone.

Why do Americans think that people in Baghdad or the south or north aren’t going care what happens in Falloojeh or Ramadi or Nassriyah or Najaf? Would Americans in New York disregard bombing and killing in California?

And as I blog this, all the mosques, Sunni and Shi’a alike, are calling for Jihad…”

Dunno about you, but all of this makes me rather more certain that terrorism, bombings, etc, are coming our way. The Bushies, by their blundering, are making the world vastly more dangerous, not less.
