Gay marriages continue in San Francico

Opponents of gay marriage failed Friday to stop an extraordinary act of ongoing civil disobedience in San Francisco, where under the direction of newly elected Mayor Gavin Newsom, the city has begun issuing marriage licenses to gay couples in defiance of state law.

Indeed, the LA Times reports the SF marriage office is staying open all weekend, with thousands of couples expected to get married.

And ok, I guess newly elected SF mayor Gavin Newson isn’t the Antichrist after all, even if he did beat Green Matt Gonzaelez in the recent quite close mayoral race by getting write-in votes from Republicans. He’s been one of the main players in this.

Rebel assault routs Iraqi security forces in Fallujah, killing at least 20 and freeing prisoners

Guerrillas shouting ”God is great” launched a bold daylight assault on an Iraqi police station and security compound west of Baghdad on Saturday, freeing prisoners and sparking a gunbattle that killed 21 people and wounded 33, police and hospital officials said.

This attack appears to be a first, both in the level of ferocity and in that the rebels succeeded in driving back  government forces.
