The body of a 53-year-old hiker missing since New Year’s Day on Mt. Baldy was found Saturday about 900 feet below where rescuers believed he had fallen, authorities said.
He’d fallen off a cliff, then walked away. Apparently he didn’t have a whistle with which to signal search parties. Nor did he stay where he fell, as his companion, who went for help, knew where he was. Two easily made mistakes. In a suburban area, they would have made no difference at all.
