Huge numbers march against Bush in London

When they reached Trafalgar Square, protesters felled a six-meter (20-foot) papier mache statue of Bush in a parody of the toppling of a statue of Saddam Hussein when U.S. and British troops swept into Baghdad. In its top pocket was a puppet with a grinning Blair face.

Protesters, Miami cops clash during FTAA demonstrations

Police officers in riot gear used long batons, plastic shields, concussion grenades and stun guns in clashes Thursday with hundreds of demonstrators opposed to ongoing talks aimed at creating a hemisphere-wide free trade zone.

Hey, nice priorities!

Hey, nice priorities!

Major news today included serious currency fraud on Wall Street as well as Bush being jeered at Buckingham Palace.

So what is the lead story on most websites and TV news programs? Something weighty about how US Presidents don’t often get booed in London? A piece about the massive amounts of fraud and corruption being uncovered on a daily basis in corporate America?

No, the lead story is - did Michael Jackson diddle a 12 year old? A grotesque crime if true, but not something that ought push genuinely important news out of the spotlight.

Bread and circuses. While Rome burns.

Gentlemen, start your looting

Gentlemen, start your looting

A decision by the House Republicans to strip the Iraq supplemental bill of an anti-profiteering provision has outraged the Democrats.

That’s right, Republicans greased the way for war profiteering without possibilty of prosecution.

The provision — included during the Senate Appropriations Committee markup with unanimous support but removed in conference — would have subjected those who deliberately defrauded the United States or Iraq to jail terms of up to 20 years and costly fines.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), another author of the profiteering provision, called it “shocking” that it was taken out. “Why?” Feinstein asked. “It was a good amendment.””

A Senate Democratic aide said, “Several House Republican conferees were clearly empathetic, but they had to look to a higher authority. That higher authority was the White House, which had sent the marching order to strip this from the bill.”

While Halliburon, ExxonMobil, Bechtel, and Wackenhut rejoice, no doubt.

Dollar falls to all-time euro low

The US dollar has fallen to an all-time low against the euro, amid fears over trade wars and reluctance by foreigners to finance the US trade deficit

George Bush, of course, is directly responsible for the trade wars and for the war-induced deficit.

Liberals fight back; pundits are…

Liberals fight back; pundits are shocked

The alarming rise in liberal aggression is now the subject of regular bulletins from pundits of varying persuasions and temperaments. As certain disquieting elements converge, portents of doom can no longer be ignored: The same progressives who once fit the wimp stereotype are answering back when attacked.

The same Democrats who could find no voice last year are bellowing now. The most outspoken challenger to George W. Bush is leading in key primary states. And certain liberal authors who rudely call a liar a liar are selling thousands of books.

To our op-ed philosophers, this eruption on the left seems unnatural, irrational and dangerous, like the sudden fury of Hitchcock’s bloodthirsty birds. They regard the “angry liberals” as a menace to the Republic and to themselves.

a) Get used to it! b) You ain’t seen nothing yet!!
