High court in Massachusetts rules Gays have right to marry.

Massachusetts’ highest court ruled today that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution.

This ruling, which has been expected for months, will set off nuclear attacks from the Right, and may make gay rights a central issue in the 2004 election.

Vermont, another New England state, a few years back under Governor Howard Dean, legalized gay marriage in all but name.

In New England, where I am from, one’s sex life and religious beliefs are generally considered to be private matters and not the business of the state to snoop into, regulate, or impose values upon.
