Rumsfeld, as usual, blames everyone but self

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is asking whether the country is doing enough to win the war on terrorism, citing “mixed results” in the fight against al-Qaida.

Mr. Rumsfeld made the remarks in a memo to senior defense officials last week. The memo was first reported by the newspaper USA Today. The memo says the Pentagon has not yet taken “truly bold moves” in the war against terrorism.

And what might “truly bold moves”? Nuking the Middle East? Instituting martial law here? Jailing people without trials, proof, or letting them see a lawyer. Oh wait, Rumsfeld’s already doing that last one, isn’t he?

Mr. Rumsfeld said the Defense Department cannot change quickly enough to fight international terrorist groups, saying a new institution may be needed.

Hmm, the Department of Defense isn’t robust enough for Rumsfeld, eh, and something “new” is needed — his own private army, it sounds like. Why am I seeing double lightning bolts flash in front of my eyes?

But hey, there’s a better alternative than these lunatic plans! New leadership in D.C! Let’s get rid of the arrogant and deeply ineffective Rumsfeld, as he clearly is incapable of doing the job. I mean, he as much as admitted this when he said results were “mixed”, right? Behind all his strutting and imperiousness, Rumsfeld just not real competent, is he?

Europe slaps Microsoft again

Europe slaps Microsoft again

Dealing yet another blow to Microsoft, the European Commission has offered an extensive road map to guide governments toward open-source software and away from proprietary technology.

This is more than a slap. If the EU leaves Windows for open source, BillG is in big trouble.

Bush says he disagrees with General Boykin’s remarks on religion

And in a related story

Lieberman compares Boykin comments on Muslims to bin Laden’s on Christians and Jews

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman said a top Army general should be reprimanded for his criticism of Muslims, calling those comments the “mirror opposite” of Osama bin Laden’s vilification of Christians and Jews.

Russia to switch to Euros…

Russia to switch to Euros for oil trading?

The previously unthinkable is now on the table. Russia, the world’s second largest oil exporter, is giving serious consideration to trading its black gold in euros, a switch that would surely set dominos in motion among other oil producing nations and, ultimately, knock the dollar off its global throne.

GoToMyPC

GoToMyPC

GoToMyPC is a great idea. Log into your home/office computer from anywhere, transfer files, run programs, etc. (PC Anywhere does this too, however it requires you carry and then install software, plus I’ve found Symantec software to be bloated and pokey.)

GoToMyPC allows you to access a PC from anywhere, no manual software installs needed. After setting it up on your computer,  you simply log into GoToMyPC with your password. It automatically logs you on to your computer. Then, and this is a nice touch, it asks you for another password, and that password is only stored on your computer, and not at GoToMyPC.

It’s simple to use, and I’m finding all sorts of purposes for it. Updating this weblog, making changes on clients websites, reading my email, all of this can easily be done from any computer. Plus you can transfer files, which, for a consultant like me, means I don’t have to burn a CD whenever I take a new database update to a client. I just log on my office PC from the client and transfer the files. (I also send the files to my yahoo email account as a back up.)

GoToMyPC has no trouble getting past my router and firewall, yet it is quite secure. The speed is surprisingly quick. They have a special now, one year in advance for $10 a month. Check it out.

Limbaugh says drug addiction a remnant of Clinton administration

Frankly discussing his addiction to painkillers, conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh told his radio audience Monday that his abuse of OxyContin was a “remnant of the anything-goes ideology of the Clinton Administration.” “Friends, all I can say is ‘I told you so,’” said Limbaugh, from an undisclosed drug-treatment facility. “Were it not for Bill Clinton’s loose policies on drug offenders and his rampant immorality, I would not have found myself in this predicament.” Limbaugh added that he’s staying at a rehab center created by the tax-and-spend liberals.
