Long Beach more dangerous than…

Long Beach more dangerous than Iraq?

A Marine who was wounded in Iraq was murdered Sunday in Long Beach, CA in an ambush while he and his friends were having a bbq. There is no apparent motive.

Are you lefties whining about…

Are you lefties whining about global warming again?

Yes.

Here in the San Fernando Valley it’s been over 100 for several days now. It’s the middle of October! The temperatures should be down to the frigid 70’s or so, but noooo, instead we get to have more triple digit heat.

Combine this highly unusual heat with reports of glaciers melting rapidly in South America, the Arctic and Antarctica, Alaska, Europe, and California, and yes, it’s apparent to all but the rigid ideologues in DC that global warming is indeed happening.

Grocery strike

Grocery strike

Rumors have it the Teamsters may strike the grocery warehouses in support for the grocery workers. If this happens, it will be in the next week or so, and it will shut the grocery stores down completely.

The warehouses are computerized and can’t easily be run by those with no experience. The grocery store CEOs are taking a nasty, tough line. If the Teamsters strike in solidarity, the grocery stores would be out of business until the strike was resolved. Stay tuned…

(Somewhere, John L. Lewis, the legendary head of the CIO in the 30’s, is smiling…)

Israelis hit Gaza with 5…

Israelis hit Gaza with 5 assaults; 11 dead, 100 wounded

These are civilian areas they are attacking.

Why is it terrorism when a Palestinian suicide bomber detonates on a bus but not terrorism when Israel fires missiles into a civilian area? Because that’s what Israel did today. Repeatedly.

But Israel’s Channel 10 TV said that none of the dead were militants, characterizing the refugee camp strike as a “mistake.”

Residents said one of the dead was a doctor who was treating victims when a second missile struck.

Some might even say that constitutes war crimes.

I do not follow the theory that Israel and Sharon are out of control and are somehow the tail wagging the U.S. dog. Nonsense. Dubya et al have given their ok for these attacks and they wouldn’t be happening without that approval.

Israel gets billions per year in U.S. military aid. Israel would not exist except for the backing of the U.S. military. Do you think they would do anything to deliberately piss of their benefactors?

East Coast bias alert

East Coast bias alert

From the NY Times,

Can the Disney Hall help give Los Angeles a genuine downtown?

While I rather like the architecture of the new Disney Hall, the New York Times is confused.  L.A. doesn’t need a “genuine” downtown”, (an East Coast concept) or, to put it another way, we already have several of them; Santa Monica, Century City, Koreatown, East L.A., Pasadena, Long Beach, etc.

The San Fernando Valley, where I live, is a geographical entity unto itself with 2 million people. Many here hardly ever go downtown because there’s no need to. Plus, the County of Los Angeles is physically larger than the State of Connecticut and public transportation is lacking, which can make travelling to other parts of L.A. a major hassle (this is compounded by our traffic which is officially the worst in the nation!).

New York City is vertical, Los Angeles is horizontal. The geography and layout of L.A. guarantees there will be many centers, not just one big one.
