Michael Moore’s new book wants…

Michael Moore’s new book wants Bush to do the Perp Walk

From Moore’s newsletter:

I have written a new book, and this Tuesday it’s being released. It’s called, “DUDE, WHERE’S MY COUNTRY?” Because its content is likely to upset more than a few people, the publisher has “embargoed” the book until midnight Monday (which means no store or media outlet or anyone has access to a copy of the book until then).

They have taken these measures because I have written a book that seeks not to defeat the Bush people next year, but to have them removed from Washington right now. I know, I’m not asking for much. But I have spent the better part of the past year researching and writing this new book, and when you read it you’ll see why the current criminal investigation of the White House for outing a CIA agent in revenge is, in my opinion, just the tip of the iceberg. I can only hope that my book will make a small contribution toward that day when we’ll see one long perp walk of administration officials in handcuffs being led out of the White House and into a waiting paddy wagon. Like I said, I’m not asking for much.

“Dude, Where’s My Country?” is also my humble attempt to violate the Patriot Act on every single page of the book. And, I have learned that many want to get on John Ashcroft’s evildoer list with me.

There are already a record number of orders from bookstores across the country. The first printing alone is almost one million copies (my last book’s first printing was 50,000). Chapters include “Oil’s Well That Ends Well,” “The United States of BOO!”, “How to Talk to Your Conservative Brother-in-law,” and more.

If you get the New York Times, you may have noticed a mysterious ad for the past four days in the Arts section. Each day, the ad simply asks a new, pointed question of Mr. Bush. They are questions from my new book, from a chapter entitled, “Seven Questions for George of Arabia.” We are running one ad each day until the book comes out on Tuesday. In case you’ve missed them, here are the first four:

1. Dear Mr. Bush, is it true that the bin Ladens have had business relations with you and your family off and on for the past 25 years?

2. Dear “Mr. President,” what is the “special relationship” between the Bushes and the Saudi royal family?

3. Dear “Mr. President,” who attacked the United States on September 11th—a guy on dialysis from a cave in Afghanistan, or our friends, the Saudi Arabians?

4. Dear “Mr. President,” why did you allow a private Saudi jet to fly around the U.S. in the days after September 11th and pick up members of the bin Laden family and then fly them out of the country without a proper investigation by the FBI?

In my book, I provide some of the answers and all of the background evidence. It is astounding, and it is criminal. Will there be one Democrat in Congress willing to begin the investigation?

More on Arnold’s fascination with…

More on Arnold’s fascination with Nazism

Exclusive from the NY Times,

Mr. Butler wrote in his book proposal that in the 1970’s, he considered Mr. Schwarzenegger a “flagrant, outspoken admirer of Hitler.”

In the proposal, Mr. Butler also said he had seen Mr. Schwarzenegger playing “Nazi marching songs from long-playing records in his collection at home” and said that the actor “frequently clicked his heels and pretended to be an S.S. officer.”

A Jewish friend of Eastern European ancestry told me the following quite possibly tasteless, certainly not true in all cases but definitely seems to apply here, joke

Q. What’s the difference between a German and an Austrian?

A. A German used to be a Nazi, an Austrian still is.

CodePink calls statewide anti-Arnold protests…

CodePink calls statewide anti-Arnold protests today

From a Code Pink newsletter:

Women across the state will participate in the “Women Can Stop Schwarzenegger Statewide Day of Protest” on Friday, October 3, at 5 PM.

CodePink and their supporters in a dozen California cities will call on the candidate to pull out of the race. Protest locations include Santa Monica and Sacramento outside both of Schwarzenegger’s Volunteer Campaign Headquarters.

Simultaneous demonstrations will also be held in San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, San Rafael Santa Rosa, Pasadena, Orange County, Sebastopol, Berkeley and Ft Bragg. More locations are being added to the growing list of participating cities.

At several of the protest locations CodePink plans to unveil a map of California with “No Groper Zone” emblazoned on it as well as the “Top Ten Reasons Not to Vote for Schwarzenegger.”

“This pattern of abusive and humiliating behavior has spanned three decades–it is indicative of his character,” said Jodie Evans, co-founder of CodePink Women for Peace.  “He is not qualified to represent the large percentage of women in California–specifically if he does not know the difference between ‘playful’ antics and sexual battery.”

Has Bush become a threat…

Has Bush become a threat to the ruling elite?

Saul Landau on the CounterPunch home page

Have some heavy weight members of the old wealthy families reached a consensus that George W. Bush constitutes a clear and present danger to their fortunes’ future?

Sporadic editorials from establishment house organs like the New York Times, Washington Post and LA Times should alert the newly enlivened Democrats that they could receive substantial support from some of the upper crust.

Indeed, this is something friends and I in ANSWER have noticed. Bush is making the monied class nervous. He’s too rash, out of control, unthinking. He’s started wars we can’t afford, wars which alienate the planet from us, wars we can’t extricate ourselves from. Business needs things functioning in an orderly predictable manner. Bush, by his idiot arrogant fumblings, has made things quite unpredictable. In other words, Bush is bad for business.

And power elites very much dislike people who are bad for business.

Bush continues tanking in the…

Bush continues tanking in the polls

From a NY Times poll

Americans are for the first time more critical than not of Mr. Bush’s ability to handle both foreign and domestic problems, and a majority say the president does not share their priorities.

Thirteen months before the 2004 election, a solid majority of Americans say the country is seriously on the wrong track, a classic danger sign for incumbents, and only about half of Americans approve of Mr. Bush’s overall job performance.

And this time he can’t start a war to pump up the popularity, because his wars are precisely why his popularity has been sinking.
