More on Camejo and the recall race

A fellow Green, Mark Tiepe at Walks Upright, agrees with PoliZeros that Peter Camejo should drop out of the recall race to help stop Arnold.

Walks Upright just blogged:

I had a frustrating dream that I was sitting across from Gray Davis in a classroom trying to feed his brain some ideas that could help him get a foothold in this tight election.

Then I awoke to the nightmare that our next governor will likely be a Viennese weightlifter son of a nazi storm trooper who thinks the Hoover Institute is a great place to get sound economic advice since it provided our un-elected oval office appointee such sound advice in 2000. (sigh)

Then, in his next post, he re-printed my post on Camejo, saying he agrees.

Yes, sometimes politics sucks. This is one of those times. Given the recall race right now, a vote for anyone but Cruz will help Arnold win. It ain’t right, it ain’t just, but that’s the way it is.

Some will say always vote your heart. I can understand that but don’t agree. Others will say the almost certain gridlock and chaos created by Arnold as Gov will create a climate where radical change can happen. Might be, but I’m still waiting for that to happen with Bush.

Hold your nose and vote for Cruz (double sigh).

“We don’t know what we’d…

“We don’t know what we’d be getting in Arnold, and Arnold has no idea what he’s in for in Sacramento.”

So says Steve Lopez today in the LA Times

I went to see Gray Davis on Monday at the Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles, and there were items on produce carts that looked more alive than he did.

Gray Davis’s next door neighbor at the Governor’s mansion sent the recall campaign $2,0000

Charlotte Goland, 79, essentially told the New York Times that she sent the money not because Davis was a bad governor, but because he was a lousy neighbor.

“He’s a cold cookie,” she said. “Woooooo-eeeee.”

California voters are in a foul mood and want the blood of politicians. The Democrats made a monumental blunder by basing their entire strategy on Gray Davis surviving the recall. Bustamante is tepid at best, hardly exciting, and really not much different from The Gray One, hence the lack of enthusiasm for him, even from supporters.

If Arnold wins I suspect we shall see massive gridlock with accompanying monumental fireworks and battles. This is a voter revolt, no question about that, and politicians across the country will take serious notice.

Too bad the Dems didn’t have a candidate that could have appealed to voters who are in the mood for serious change, for kicking some politician butt. But they didn’t. They were (and are) asleep at the wheel…

White House adds Novak, Rove, CIA, DOJ to ‘Do-Not-Call’ bill.

President Bush signed the ‘do-not-call’ bill into law after waiting for the insertion of a provision which forbids certain parties in Washington from contacting each other.

The new bill prohibits conservative commentator Robert Novak, political adviser Karl Rove, CIA, the Department of Justice, and the Washington Post from communicating with each other.

[1]Peter Camejo, a great candidate,…

Peter Camejo, a great candidate, should stand down

Arianna Huffington dropped out
of the California recall race today. She didn’t endorse Bustamante, but
that’s the implication; vote No on the recall, then hold your nose and
vote for Cruz.

If
Schwarzenegger beats Bustamante by less than the number of votes Peter
Camejo gets, the Green Party of California (GP-CA) will be become a
target of merciless unrelenting attacks from multiple directions. Until
recently I was active in Green politics in California and, without
going into great detail, suffice it to say that GP-CA is currently so
severely fragmented that it can not withstand a concerted assault from
the outside.

Peter
Camejo, who I know a bit and greatly respect, should follow Arianna’s
lead and drop out. He’s run a principled, non-argumentative campaign,
acting like an adult when others were having pie fights, and in doing
so has genuinely impressed many people. More than a few non-Greens told
me they watched Camejo during the debate and said “Wow, who IS that
guy” - so Peter has done an admirable job indeed.

Now
it’s time for Peter Camejo to leave on a the great high note he created
and drop out of the recall race. In doing so he will make a huge
positive impression upon the populace about the maturity and wisdom of
the Green Party.

If
he doesn’t, and as mentioned, Arnold beats Cruz by less than his number
of votes, the ramifications for GP-CA, and the Green Party nationally
will be seriously nasty. Neither have the resources or strength to
withstand a national pounding over being a spoiler, especially with the
2004 elections looming large.

Important addendum: (added after comments made me realize I should have also posted the following):

Camejo said he’d understand if Greens vote for Cruz.

Over the weekend, Camejo all but dropped his stance of independence from the two major parties, openly encouraging Green supporters to vote for Bustamante on October 7 by saying he would “understand” if they did so to stave off a Republican victory.

What I’ve said here has already been considered by the state GP (who I am not in contact with).

Meanwhile, California Green Party
spokesman Ross Mirkarimi said he did not expect party candidate Peter
Camejo to reconsider staying in the race.

But he said the party did not want to play a spoiler role in this election.

It
is not our goal to make the difference between the worst and the
least-worst of the candidates. We don’t relish that position,”
Mirkarimi said. “We believe that it would be better for California if
someone other than a Republican were in the statehouse.”

The Obsolete Computer Museum

The Apple II C! The Commodore PET!! The DEC Rainbow!!! The KayPro II!!!!

Thrill to those days of yesteryear when 64k was a big honking computer and sometimes you even had hard disk, not just floppy drives.

And in ten years we will look back at the Pentium 4 and Mac OS 10 as being quaint little toys… Imagine, cell phones in 2003 didn’t even do streaming real time video…

Does a felon Rove the…

Does a felon Rove the White House?

Allegations are swirling that Karl Rove, senior political adviser to President George W. Bush, may have committed a felony by blowing the cover of a CIA operative. CIA Director George Tenet has called on the Justice Department to investigate but the White House said Monday that “President George W. Bush has no plans to ask his staff members whether they played a role.”

Two weeks ago Democracy Now! aired Wilson’s comments before a suburban Seattle audience that he believes Bush’s closest aide, Karl Rove, told reporters that Wilson’s wife was a CIA agent.

At the forum Wilson declared, “At the end of the day, it’s of keen interest to me to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frog-marched out of White House in handcuffs.” Wilson added, “And trust me when I use that name, I measure my words.”
