This appears to NOT be satire….

Feds snooping on Scotch distilleries for fear of chemical weapons conversions. US Intelligence is closely monitoring Scotch whisky distilleries on the off-chance that they will be converted to chemical weapons factories.

For it has been revealed that Ursula, a spy with the US Defence Threat Reduction Agency - “Our mission to safeguard the US and its allies from weapons of mass destruction” - has been monitoring the island distillery.

Apparently, it takes just a “tweak” - her words - in the process of making whisky and Bruichladdich could be churning out chemical weapons.

“My son died because Bush…

“My son died because Bush lied.”

From the Guardian

The father of a soldier killed in Iraq accused President George Bush yesterday of being responsible for his son’s death.

Fernando Suarez, whose 20-year-old son, Jesus, was one of the first fatalities, said: “My son died because Bush lied.”
Mr Suarez, from Escondido, California, speaking at a press conference to publicise tomorrow’s anti-war demonstrations in eight US cities said that about 1,300 parents of troops stationed in Iraq were involved in a movement against the occupation. “It is time for these troops to come home,”

Suarez made the comments at a press conference held by ANSWER LA. It drew media from NBC, CBS, La Opinion, The Guardian, Swedish Radio, a large Japanese newspaper, City News, and others.
The buzz for the LA demo on Sunday is snowballing. The press conference was well-attended and made several local TV news shows as well as being reported in national and international media. And this is BEFORE the event!

Ominous news for Bush

Ominous news for Bush

Barely one-third of Arizona voters say they would give President Bush a second term, a statewide poll revealed Thursday.

Given that Arizona tilts heavily to the right, this is startling news indeed. Bush’s voter base is deserting him.

Looks like Dubya may well be be a one-term President like his daddy.

Poverty rises, income levels fall

In a report that offered fresh ammunition to critics of President Bush’s economic policy, the government said Friday that the nation’s median income fell nearly $500 in 2002 and the poverty rate climbed for a second straight year.

And no, more tax cuts for the wealthy is NOT the answer. Never was, never will be.

The California recall election and…

The California recall election and campaign contributions

If you’re wondering why Peter Camejo, the Green Party candidate for Governor in the California recall, has no ads running in print, TV or radio, it’s because he can’t afford it. The Green Party bans contributions from corporations and PACs, and strictly limits how much an individual can give. All well and noble, yet such underfunding makes running an effective statewide campaign beyond difficult in a state with 35 million people.

Recall Watch tracks the money contributed to the various recall campaigns. Camejo has raised just $49,000, compared to $777,000 for Huffington, 1.6 million for McClintock, 4.2 million for Bustamante, and 15.4 million for Schwarzenegger, of which 9.5 million comes from Schwarzenegger himself.

All this info, plus the names of contributors can be easily discovered using their handy advanced search page. There’s some fascinating info here, happy digging!
