Wesley Clark says US plans call for invading seven countries

From reader Theologicus

The U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq was “a perfect example” of military domination while failing to achieve victory, retired general and Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark wrote in a new book.

Clark, who joined the 2004 race last week, also said he learned in November 2001 that the Bush administration’s plan for invading Iraq and ousting President Saddam Hussein had been part of a broader five-year military campaign in seven countries that Washington accused of supporting terrorism.

Clark wrote that a senior military officer told him on a visit to the Pentagon in November 2001 that the U.S. was planning to go against Iraq but there was more to it. After Iraq, the plan called for targeting Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.

The Right watching the Left

The Right watching the Left

CommieWatch, a right wing blog that thinks it knows what the Left is doing, is just as interested in the Josh Connole case as PoliZeros is! In fact, they linked to my photo of Josh and his lawyer at  a recent ANSWER meeting. Their speculations about Josh and ANSWER, however, border on ludicrous for anyone actually near the case. CommieWatch is part of, are you ready, Watchers of Weasels, a revolving group of blogs apparently dedicated to figuring out what the heck the Left is up to. It may just be my admitted biases but most of the Watchers, from my quick spin through their blogs, seem decidedly on the lame side. Not much substance.

CommieWatch is by far the best of them, and is at least intelligently written by Greg Yardley, a staff writer for David Howowitz’s hard right Center for the Study of Popular Culture. He says the blog is strictly personal but hey it sure seems like a front organization to me. (Note: this is my little jest, as he says ANSWER is a front..)

Ah, the things I discover by reading the referrer logs for PoliZeros! (Referrer logs track where hits for a website come from)

Bushies looking to start more…

Bushies looking to start more wars?

The Bushies are targetting Syria and Iran yet again. They’ve lied so much and so often it is, um, difficult to believe them when they imply we face Yet More Monstrous Threats from the Middle East.

The Air Force has charged Senior Airman Ahmad Al-Halabi with spying and trying to pass classified information about detainees to contacts in Syria.

This just a few days after The Bush Administration growled at Syria for something, I forget precisely what. This seems llike their usual beating the drums for war.

US President George W Bush has condemned Iran over its nuclear programme, as reports say United Nations nuclear inspectors have found traces of highly-enriched weapons-grade uranium at a second site in the country.

Just like the WMDs no doubt…

Annan orders some UN staff…

Annan orders some UN staff out of Iraq

With the bloodshed mounting in Iraq, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan ordered some UN staff to leave the country temporarily, his spokesman said.

The announcement came as a blow as the United States and anti-war opponents like France debate how great a role the United Nations should have in helping to rebuild the war-torn country.

In the past day or so, a member of the ruling council was assassinated, a NBC hotel was bombed, and US soldiers have been killed. The attacks are escalating both in quantity and ferocity.

27 Israeli Pilots refuse to…

27 Israeli Pilots refuse to participate in Palestine raids

This is huge. Open rebellion coming from the elite of Israel, air force pilots.

About 27 Israeli reserve and active pilots, including a Brigadier General, sent a signed petition to the Israeli Air Force Commander, in which they refused to fly in any mission over the Palestinian territories.

They said, “We, who have been educated to love the state of Israel … refuse to take part in air force attacks in civilian population centers. We … refuse to continue harming innocent civilians.”
