Bill Clinton is advising Gray Davis now. The press is currently ignoring everyone but Schwarzenneger. There’s 115 confirmed candidates so far with many more coming. (Update: Warren Buffett is now advising Schwarzenegger)
Ah yes, the coming battle will be apocalyptic in its nastiness. However, little will be accomplished. The next Governor, whoever it is, won’t be able to do much.
Why? Because California’s problems are structural. Huge debt. Shrinking revenue. A crumbling infrastructure. 70 billion dollars that just up and vanished, leaving a smoking crater of a deficit where once was a surplus.
Where did the money go? The candidates need to talk about that. And find real answers. But most won’t.
