Molly Ivins on who the Bushies plan to run Iraq

“So, we’ve got a crook <convicted embezzleer Ahmed Chalabi>, a Zionist <ret. Gen. Jay Garner> and an old spy <former CIA head James Woolsey> who thinks this is the beginning of WWIV set to run Iraq. How lucky can the Iraqis get? Is this what we thought we were fighting for?”

Chomsky

Chomsky

I was listening to Alternative Radio yesterday on KPFK, with host David Barsamian interviewing Noam Chomsky on the current Iraq invasion.

Barsamian asked Chomsky, “Many people ask, what can we do? How would you answer that?”.

Chomsky’s reply was fascinating. He said he travels worldwide, meeting many different kinds of people. He said when he’s speaking with campensinos in Mexico or labor organizers in a third world county, they never ask, what can we do? Instead, they tell HIM what they ARE doing.

It’s only elites in highly technological countries, he continued, who ask, what can we do, hoping for some quick fix so they can get back to the normal routine of their lives. The campesinos know better than that, they know struggles like this require long term dedication.

Blix says Iraq war planned well in advance

The invasion of Iraq was planned a long time in advance, and the United States and Britain are not primarily concerned with finding any banned weapons of mass destruction, the chief UN weapons inspector, Hans Blix, said in an interview on Wednesday.

“There is evidence that this war was planned well in advance. Sometimes this raises doubts about their attitude to the (weapons) inspections,” Blix told Spanish daily El Pais.

Blix said that he thought the US might initially have believed Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction - although its “fabrication” of evidence raised doubts about even that - but that Washington was now less convinced by its own claims.

“I think the Americans started the war thinking there were some. I think they now believe less in that possibility.
