Only in Los Angeles

Only in Los Angeles

Gas masks for dogs. Custom gasmaks. $1200 and up. I am not making this up.

But what about parrots and goldfish and … cats? Should I get custom gasmasks fitted for my two feline pals, Joey and Suzy? Hmmm, Suzy is capable of inflicting serious damage if she even suspects I wish to trim her claws, so I’m sure she’ll sit peacefully while a stranger fits her for a gasmask. Right…

Are these people mad? The terrorists will be announcing in advance they will be gassing L.A., giving us time to put gasmasks on? I don’t think so! This is up there with stretch Hummers in the “Too much money, too little brains” sweepstakes.

Beastie Boys antiwar song (free download)

In a World Gone Mad

“This song is not an anti-American or pro-Saddam Hussein statement. This is a statement against an unjustified war.”
- Adam Horovitz

Some lyrics:

Mirrors, smokescreens and lies
It’s not the politicians but their actions I despise
You and Saddam should kick it like back in the day
With the cocaine and Courvoisier
But you build more bombs as you get more bold
As your mid-life crisis war unfolds
All you want to do is take control
Now put that axis of evil bullshit on hold

I hope the Beasties have a big honking powerful web server, because that puppy should be getting hundreds of thousands of hits right about now.

Duct tape in the news…

Duct tape in the news again!

Iraqi “drone” made of duct tape.

“You can’t make this stuff up:

A remotely piloted aircraft that the United States has warned could spread chemical weapons appears to be made of balsa wood and duct tape, with two small propellors attached to what look like the engines of a weed whacker”. [Daily Kos]

US may go alone if…

US may go alone if Blair forced not to join

Washington was forced to admit for the first time last night that it might have to start the war against Iraq without British forces because of the internal political problems heaping up for Tony Blair.

This is absolute proof positive that the peace movement is having a HUGE impact. 40 Labor MP’s have threatened to resign if Blair goes to war without UN approval. Plus it would be illegal for Blair to do so.

What can the world do…

What can the world do if the US attacks Iraq?

“If the US attacks Iraq without support of the UN Security Council, will the world be powerless to stop it?

The answer is no. Under a procedure called “Uniting for Peace,” the UN General Assembly can demand an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal. The global peace movement should consider demanding such an action.

When Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal in 1956, Britain, France, and Israel invaded Egypt and began advancing on the Suez Canal. U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower demanded that the invasion stop. Resolutions in the UN Security Council called for a cease-fire - but Britain and France vetoed them.

Then the United States appealed to the General Assembly and proposed a resolution calling for a cease-fire and a withdrawal of forces. The General Assembly held and passed the resolution. Britain and France withdrew from Egypt within a week.”
