MAJOR NEWS: France, Germany and Russia say they will ‘‘not allow’’ war resolution on Iraq
The foreign ministers of France, Germany and Russia said Wednesday they will ‘‘not allow’’ passage of an American-backed U.N. resolution to authorize war against Iraq.
This is beyond huge. We are seeing the end of American dominance on the planet.

The Voila moment

“At the Pentagon they call it the Voila Moment. That’s when Iraqi soldiers and civilians, with bombs raining down on Baghdad, suddenly scratch their heads and say to themselves: “These bombs aren’t really meant to kill me and my family, they are meant to free us from an evil dictator!” At that point, they thank Uncle Sam, lower their weapons, abandon their posts, and rise up against Saddam Hussein. Voila!”
The above paragraph is not, repeat, is not, satire. The alleged rational humans in the Pentagon appear to genuinely believe that dropping bombs on people will make them love us.

As an example, Italy is already getting seriously antiwar

I’m also hearing a US military base in Italy was searched by officials, then fined, when they found depleted uranium weapons, which were specifically banned. In other words, the United States flunked a weapons inspection…

The end of empire
Powell warns Bush he faces “humiliating” defeat on UN resolution.
Russia to use veto on Iraq ‘if necessary’.
U.S. may consider abandoning second resolution.
It is now apparent the U.S. can not win a U.N. war vote. If Bush backs down, it will, in effect, signal the end of American Empire.
If Bush chooses war, it will also be the end of American Empire. Why? We may take Baghdad. But we can not win this war. It could bankrupt the country. It will make us a pariah in the world. And expect massive terrorism and blowback against us if we do go to war. No, we can not win this.

“Smithfield to turn hog waste into diesel fuel
Smithfield Foods Inc., the nation’s largest pork producer, said last week it will build a $20 million facility in Utah that will use waste from 500,000 hogs to make biodiesel, a renewable vehicle fuel.
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be made from any fat including vegetable oil and used cooking oil. About 15 million gallons were used in the United States last year.”
