They’re at it again…
Justice Dept. drafts sweeping expansion of Anti-Terrorism Act.
“The Bush Administration is preparing a bold, comprehensive sequel to the USA Patriot Act passed in the wake of September 11, 2001, which will give the government broad, sweeping new powers to increase domestic intelligence-gathering, surveillance and law enforcement prerogatives, and simultaneously decrease judicial review and public access to information.”
Apparently the Bushies were appalled they hadn’t completely gutted the Constitution yet so they’re back taking another whack at it.
Oh, they just announced another Big Terrible Purple Monster of Doom Alert, so I guess we should all go hide under our beds. I am SO grateful for these alerts, they help so much in determining what to do. Of course, coarse cynics among us would say these alerts seem suspiciously timed, and are merely propaganda aimed at building war fever.
However every action has a reaction: ACLU slams Ashcroft in ad campaign
“The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said it plans to step up its criticism of what it says is the US government’s assault on individual freedoms with a series of print ads attacking US Attorney General John Ashcroft.
The advertisements paint Ashcroft as a zealous ideologue who has hacked away at American civil liberties using post-September 11 concerns about national security as a pretext.”
These are not normal times. The denizens of White House are not normal people. They do not have our interests at heart. It’s time to mobilize. Now.
