How lunatic is Bush?

How lunatic is Bush?

Bush now considers any opposition - even from Pentagon generals - to be “an act of treason”.

Therefore, “lunatic”, I think, is an appropriate description. That, or “dangerously unstable”.

Update: Some are questioning the reliability of the following article. However, reports of Dubya’s mentally unbalanced state and Rumsfeld’s screaming at generals to stop questioning or be fired have appeared elsewhere as well. And it is not uncommon for explosive info to be leaked by anonymous sources to obscure media, in hopes the story will get legs.

From Capitol Hill Blue (emphasis added)

This is not Desert Storm,” one of the Joint Chiefs is reported to have told Rumseld. “We don’t have the backing of other Middle Eastern nations. We don’t have the backing of any of our allies except Britain and we’re advocating a policy that says we will invade another nation that is not currently attacking us or invading any of our allies.”

Intelligenced sources say some Arab nations have told US diplomats they may side with Iraq if the U.S. attacks without the backing of the United Nations. Secretary of State Colin Powell agrees with his former colleagues at the Pentagon and has told the President he may be pursuing a “dangerous course.” An angry Rumsfeld, who backs Bush without question, is said to have told the Joint Chiefs to get in line or find other jobs. Bush is also said to be “extremely angry” at what he perceives as growing Pentagon opposition to his role as Commander in Chief.

“The President considers this nation to be at war,” a White House source says,” and, as such, considers any opposition to his policies to be no less than an act of treason.”

Let’s make up some “facts”

“Sources say the White House has ordered the FBI and CIA to “find and document” links between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. “The implication is clear,” grumbles one longtime FBI agent. “Find a link, any link, no matter how vague or unproven, and then use that link to justify action against Iraq.”

The protests are having an effect

Some Pentagon staffers point to last weekend’s antiwar rally in Washington, where they say the crowd included many veterans of Desert Storm. The protests are working! “This wasn’t just a bunch of tree huggers and longhairs marching,” says Arnold Giftos of Huntington, West Virginia, who served in Desert Storm and who came to march. “Go to any meeting of veterans groups in this country and you will see serious discussion on whether or not we should be getting into this war.”

Russia & China now oppose…

Russia & China now oppose Iraq war

Russia & China have joined France and Germany in opposition to an Iraq War. All but Germany are permanent members of the UN Security Council with veto power over a war vote.

I find China’s opposition particularly significant, as they often wait a while before staking out a move, preferring to watch what others do first.

Washington is almost completely isolated in court of world opinion now.

The only countries besides the U.S. favoring a war are Britain and Australia, and I can’t help but note that these three countries are Anglo-Saxon in origin. So, may I hasten to add, this particular Anglo does not favor war, nor do many other Anglos!

Bee Gees

Bee Gees

It occurs to me the Bee Gees were a class act. Their songs were well-crafted, totally professional, and innovative. I mean, no one else sang like them, did they? Also even after decades in the public eye, you never heard of them getting arrested or involved in anything tacky. They did their music and lived peacefully.

Now, with the death of Maurice, they’ve retired the Bee Gees name. No “farewell tours” with a stand-in, no attempt to cash in on his death. Rather, the remaining Gibb brothers said; it was a great run, Maurice is gone, it’s time to retire the name.

And that is a class act.

Arrogance or delusion?

Arrogance or delusion?

“U.S. to demand Allies agree Iraq is defying U.N.”

What an bizarre statement! First, one generally does not demand things of allies, it’s considered tacky. Y’know, because they’re friends and all? Second, since no weapons have yet been found, just how can Iraq be “defying” King George The Mad, er, the U.N.?

“WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 — Bush administration officials said today that next week they would confront France, Germany and other skeptics of military action against Iraq by demanding that they agree publicly that Iraq had defied the United Nations Security Council. <Gasp, the temerity of these impudent nations, how dare they have their own ideas>

The officials, expressing exasperation with the refusal of longtime allies to back the United States <BAD France, BAD Germany. Go stand in the corner until you are good!>, said they were vigorously debating whether to seek a second United Nations resolution authorizing force against Iraq <As if the decision to invade hasn’t already been made…>. At the least, they said, they will insist that the nations opposed to the American position acknowledge that Iraq has not complied with resolutions on its weapons of mass destruction.”

I’m confused, is this the terrible majesty of the power of the U.S,.demanding the world do its will or an infant banging his rattle on the high chair in rage? Hmmm.
