Attack On Internet Called Largest…

Attack On Internet Called Largest Ever

The heart of the Internet sustained its largest and most sophisticated attack ever, starting late Monday, according to officials at key online backbone organizations.

Around 5:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, a “distributed denial of service” (DDOS) attack struck the 13 “root servers” that provide the primary roadmap for almost all Internet communications. Despite the scale of the attack, which lasted about an hour, Internet users worldwide were largely unaffected, experts said.

Taylor Re-Enters Montana Senate Race

Montana Republican Mike Taylor announced Tuesday that he was restarting his campaign for the Senate, just 12 days after announcing he was leaving the race.

Taylor had quit after Democrats ran an ad campaign that implying he was gay. Plus his campaign was broke. Not sure what he intends to prove now. It is of interest that the Democrat in this Montana race is way ahead, Montana not exactly being a Democratic stronghold.

Sniper message to police: “Your children are not safe anywhere at any time”.

This just revealed by Police Chief Moose, who also referred to “killer or killers”. The first time, I believe, that officials have publicly said there could be more than one person involved.

The parents with kids in the affected area must be terrified.

Some reports say the sniper wants $$$ or he will kill again. One question. If he gets his money and gets away with it, where’s the guarantee he will stop? Or that copycats won’t appear.

Why are they assuming the sniper couldn’t be female?

Roads leading south into the city were clogged by traffic as police vehicles cut major arteries down to one lane, scrutinising and stopping all male drivers.

Russia and France block US draft resolution on Iraq

The Bush administration’s patience with the UN Security Council was tangibly running short last night <How dare those impudent pups dispute the will of George>, as France and Russia raised renewed objections to a draft resolution on the Iraq crisis that the US has presented to its fellow council members.

Got Oil?

Got Oil?

Excerpts from the latest column by the amazing Arianna Huffington.

How about using the same shock-value tactics the administration uses in the drug war to confront the public with the ultimate — and much more linearly linked — consequences of their energy wastefulness?

Imagine a soccer mom in a Ford Excursion (11 mpg city, 15 mpg highway) saying, “I’m building a nuclear bomb for Saddam Hussein.” Or a mob of solo drivers toodling down the freeway at 75 mph shouting in unison, “We’re buying weapons that will kill American soldiers, marines, and sailors! Yahoo!”

It’s not just a fantasy. Last week, talking to my friend Scott Burns, co-creator of the “Got Milk?” campaign, I was delighted to hear that he already had two ad scripts ready to go. The first one feels like an old Slim Fast commercial. Instead of “I lost 50 pounds in two weeks” the ad cuts to different people in their SUVs: “I gassed 40,000 Kurds,” “I helped hijack an airplane,” “I helped blow up a nightclub,” and then in unison: “We did it all by driving to work in our SUVs.”

The second, which opens on a man at a gas station, features a cute kid’s voice-over throughout: “This is George.” Then we see a close up of a gas pump. “This is the gas George buys for his car.” Next we see a guy in a suit. “This is the oil company executive who makes money on the gas George buys.” Close up on Al-Qaeda training film footage: “This is the terrorist organization supported by money from the country where the oil company does business. ” It’s followed by footage of 9/11: “We all know what this is.” And it closes on a wide shot of bumper to bumper traffic: “The biggest weapon of mass destruction is parked in your driveway.”

Steaker at hockey game knocks self unconscious

A streaker scaled the glass near the penalty box during a stoppage in play with just over five minutes to play and went onto the ice. Wearing only a pair of red socks, he slipped when his feet touched down and he landed hard on his back. He was apparently knocked unconscious when he banged his head on the ice.

After a delay of six minutes, he was removed on a stretcher to a loud ovation from the crowd.

Brit ambassador to Israel slams Palestinian treatment

The British official <the ambassador> has accused Israel of confining nearly 3.5 million Palestinians to what he described as the ‘largest detention camp in the world’, referring to the West Bank and Gaza.

He also described the occupied Palestinian territories as a “concentration camp” and said that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government was failing to show ‘leadership for peace’, according to press reports, first circulated by Israeli media last week.
