The Ramones were a ground-breaking band. I saw them many times. It was always the exact same show; the fog machine, the pinhead with the Gabba Gabba Hey sigh, no stage patter, 45 songs in 90 minutes. They were tight and disciplined. A friend whose punk band once opened for them told me in amazement the Ramones ran through their entire set on practice instruments in the dressing room before the show. Stone cold professionals.
They were the first punk band to get a record deal, they influenced thousands of bands. Dee Dee had a monkey on and off his back all those years, and it finally killed him. Damn…
